THE THREE Rs OF FAMILY LIFE

A videocassette for use with 14 – 16 year olds

“The family is the protection of the weak and a source of strength for all. Knowing your own worth gives you the strength to go out and conquer the world”

Opinion polls consistently show that most people want a lasting marriage and a stable family, and yet families seem to be breaking apart at an ever-increasing rate.

Why is there this gap between people's aims and their achievements? This video encourages young people to consider the demands which different sorts of relationships make upon us at different stages of our lives. It looks at problems and solutions. The style is positive and upbeat, mixing interviews, dramatic scenes and factual information in a punchy format.

“ The strength of family ties sets you free to fulfil your own potential. But strong families don't happen by accident, they depend on the sort of choices you make in your own life”

PART 1: RESPECT YOURSELF (16 minutes)

Young people speak of the pressures to become involved in sexual relationships; the problems that can result, and the reasons to say ‘no'.

PART 2: RESPECT YOUR PARTNER (12 minutes)

A wedding is the beginning of a lifelong commitment, but the commitment sometimes breaks down. What makes marriages work? And how can the problems be worked through? Married couples speak from their own experience, interspersed with dramatic scenes.

You can view the dramatic scenes from the video via this link:

PART 3: RESPECT LIFE (14 minutes)

Families are bound together by the mutual support they give each other, regardless of strength or ability. The issues of abortion, euthanasia and the needs of disabled people are looked at from the perspective of the family.
